Well we are in the hat for the next round and , ultimately, that is ALL that matters in the CupWe won 2 -0 and we probably deserved to win given that they had one shot on target and we had two ! Yes that is how poor a game it was.Evans made a few changes - as expected Coyle got a start at right back, and we had Antennuci and Doukara up front. Carayol also made a start. More surprisingly we cup tied Byram and there was no place for Philiips or Mowatt (fit again) and neither Erwin nor Botaka even made the bench so I am not sure what their futures hold at ER Overall it was a poor game, two poor teams playing average football. Pre game we wondered why we had bothered (a crowd of 16k showed that a lot of fans did not) but decided that we may get an attacking game with both teams wanting it sorted on the day and both going for the win. How wrong we were as both teams were very cagey and refused to really commit to winning. Not much of note happened in the first 40 minutes , both teams giving it away too cheaply. Then just before half time came one of only two bits of brilliance. Taylor ran down the left flank and got to the by-line, instead of crossing he pulled it back to Carayol who was right on the corner of the box and hit it right into the far corner of the net. A brilliant finish- if he can do that regularly he will be a star for us! The keeper had no chance and so instead of being booed off they left to muted applause mixed with a feeling of disbelief and admiration for the goal/ Second half followed a similar pattern and late on the debutant scorer was taken off and replaced by Dallas, that brought the second bit of brilliance. A lovely ball to Byram and he pulled it back to Doukara and he moved it on to Dallas who hit it brilliantly but the ball hit the post. This description does not do the move justice - it was football at its best. We never seemed to be in trouble as the clock ticked down and then just before the linesman indicated there was 3 more minutes to see out a real , Leeds-like mix up led to the second. The defender and keeper dillied and dallied at the edge of the box, Doukara nipped in, took the ball off them and walked it into an empty net. Well played him but awful defending Like I say we went through and that is all that counts but those players out to impress - Byram, Antenucci, Murphy etc did nothing to cement their places. Coyle looked solid enough with not much to do, Doukara showed he is OK in the squad but should not start. A win is always good and a clean sheet even more so. Given that Hull is the only time we have scored more than one at home prior to today, we have to be impressed with two goals today. On the down side we had 3 shots - the 2 goals and Dallas hitting the post - not much to excite the fans Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected]
