Cannot believe (OK I can) that we are only playing v Boro due to a court
injunction.Hard to know the right and wrong of the TV argument. Yes, we are on
much too much, and they mess about with the kick off times very much to the
detriment of the match going fans. Having said that football has accepted the
TV money (especially in the Prem) and he who pays the piper etc. Plus in
Cellinos case he is not bothered about that it is just that he thinks the club
(ie himself) is losing money due to TV games, and his idea of independent TV
deals will not deal with this problem.Scum wanted to have their own TV deal
when it all first started based simply on the fact that the TV money in
collective bargaining helps the smaller club, and we, rightly or wrongly,
consider ourselves a big club in our division.
So whilst it may suit us (?Cellino) to get our own TV deal this will make the
situation even less even than it is now and will not help make football
'fairer' quite the reverse and quite where we are in the great scheme of things
is anyones guess. Clearly the Manchester clubs, the Liverpool clubs, the bigger
London clubs (Arse, Spurs, Chelsea) will all get a bigger TV deal than us, then
probably Newcastle, Sunderland, Villa and a few others will get just as much if
not more.
Also it will not help the match going fan - games will still be shifted for the
cameras.
So whilst I am against the current TV set up I am far from convinced that
Cellinos idea will be any better.
Then just to further complicate matters for LUFC there is the poster
shenanigans and the proposed anti Cellino fly over banner and / or whatever
else waccoe and its people are planning. Add to that an expected awful crowd on
Monday v Boro, and a probable lesson on the pitch things are not great at the
moment

Subject: [LU] Cellino in court again... (TV dispute laid bare)

It appears our leader and saviour has been escalating the TV rights thing a bit
more than any of us knew.  Some select quotes:

"The Mail on Sunday can reveal Leeds' Championship match at home to
Middlesbrough tomorrow is only going ahead after the Football League was forced
to take out a legal injunction against Leeds to make them honour the fixture."

"The clubs were told Leeds launched their initial legal action to torpedo the
collective selling agreement last autumn.  Sources say executives were stunned
as Harvey explained that such a challenge might theoretically destroy the
league's current five-year broadcasting deal with Sky, currently in its first
year."

"Leeds are arguably the 'biggest' club, in multiple ways, currently outside the
Premier League. If they won the right to arrange their own TV deals, they would
expect to hugely increase the share of TV money they receive each season from
around £2m to perhaps tens of millions. Other 'bigger' clubs might follow suit
and the majority would be left facing a financial deficit."

"Unknown to most fans, Leeds had been informed in early December that Sky
wanted that fixture moved."

"The League won, but the lengthy dispute meant the date could not be announced
until four weeks before it was played. This led to a backlash from fans against
the League and Sky, when in fact Leeds' legal action caused the delay."

Steve.
