Now it could be argued that he is just a whinger, and that he will always
complain that he's not given the resources to do the job. But he does have a
goodish record at getting teams out of the lower leagues. I think he does have
an idea of what it takes to get out of this league. I think he deserves a
chance to put together a squad to do it. Although having said that, I'm not
sure the loan signings he made were any better that the players he already had.
Looking at the squads of team who have been promoted, they all seem to just be
full of solid Championship players. By and large that is all you need.
The difference between the promoted sides and those 2/3 of the way down the
league appear to be:-
Decent Keeper
Two forwards who between them will get you 35 goals
One quality player somewhere else in the front 6.
After that it is organisation and blending them into a team.
The problem these days since Fulham paid 10 Mil for McCormack and Rhodes went
to Boro is that you have to pay that much to get the premium striker you need.
