That first 45mins was as bad as any I have seen from us for a long time - if
they had been any good it would have been 3 or 4 to them.Sky comms summed us up
when they said "last season Leeds were toothless in attack and error prone at
the back, a lethal combination. Early signs are it is the same now" - that is
as good a summary of last season as anyone can make.
I do not want to get to carried away on one performance and the first of the
season at that, but today was awful - I was never a big fan of Silvestri but
Green just seems to be in the same mould. Crap at crosses, no good at kicking
and does not control the area. It remains to be seen whether Green can pull off
the same number and quality of reaction saves that Silvestri made.
Grimes - this was as poor a midfield debut as I can remember - when he was
subbed, I texted my mates and said that could be the last we see of him , and I
was not joking
Roofe tore the 4th Division apart last season but did nothing today to suggest
he can bridge that gap - although I accept he got little or no
service.Antonsson wasted, badly, our one and only clear chance - this is not
Sweden
Overall our passing was atrocious - sideways, backwards or straight to the
opposition. This meant we gave ourselves no chance of doing anything. We also
insisted on trying these long cross field balls, balls which put the player
under pressure arriving at a bad height and pace for him to control or going
straight into touch.
Hard to pick any positives - only 3 players deserve a wage and two of them
messed up and cost us goals. I thought Vieira after a slow start did some good
tackles and decent passing and driving and I do think he will be a massive
player for us - then he blew any chance we had, albeit it was only ever slim,
of getting back in the game with his penalty conceding tackle (reminded me a
bit of Sam Byram who often spolit a good performance by giving away an
unneccessry pen)Coyle - again impressed when he came on but was at fault for
the thirdSo that leaves Sacko as the only 'innocent' in it all - he looked
lively and was the only creative player we had.
Will be interesting to see what Monk says (I did text a , hopefully , joke text
to my mates saying he will be sacked on Monday) because this was not the
football we have been promised - like last season all over again with Rosler
promising heavy metal football and delivering defensive minded rubbish
Surprised (or am I?) that it took as little as 3 minutes to pop our bubble this
time - a corner, total panic and a goal against. As my son said how many
managers, keepers and defenders is it going to take before we can defend a
straight forward corner where the ball is just put into the box
Very deflated.
We need to improve and improve quickly because our only hope of getting out of
this spiral is to stick with Monk and we can only do that if we can all (esp
Cellino) see some improvement

Dave
