Could not agree more - with 5 or so minutes to go the general vibe around me
was that this was the best we have played for years ! It really was the
consumate performance in many ways.Going into it we all knew that this would be
a 1-0 or 0 0 or at theĀ  most a 2 1 for someone, it was never going to be a 4 4
thriller. We did almost everything right against a well organised, well
disciplined team. My mate was saying he had spoken to a Derby ST holder in the
week and he has said Derby battered them with 23 shots to 4 but lost 0 1, and
we expected something similar.
As it turned out i dont recall Green having a shot to save and the back 4 just
looked so at ease and comfortable we wondered if this was really LUFC.
From this solid unflappable base the front 3 managed to put a few moves
together and it was only a very bad miss from Sacko that stopped it being 2 -0
(that and the post that Wood hit)

Every single player did what he is expected to do and what we wanted him to do
- every one earned his wages today.
It was amazing in some ways - yes, not the most exciting or entertaining team
and performance but from 1 to 11 they were on it today.

Pontus Janson has made such a difference - we never expected to concede , and
when was the last time we thought that ? Him and Bartley are defenders who just
want to defend, every tackle, interception, headerĀ  brought a smile and a fist
bump from them and a cheer from the crowd. great but so unusual for us.
This allowed the likes of Hernandez, Sacko etc the time and freedom to do what
they are there for, taking the ball on and passing it etc.
Wood, a player who attracts a lot of criticism (my son had a sportsmans bet
with me as to how long it would take for my mate to slag him off - 4 minutes in
fact) but he really looked the part today, hit the post, scored and just led
the line well. Hernandez and Sackho just scared them to death.
IT was the perfect performance and the goal summed it all up, a lovely flowing
move and then a cross that Wood in the right place at the right time, just
headed home - brilliant. IF Sacko had put his chance away then it would have
been 2- 0 and a comfortable victory.
The subs were all at the right time and all like for like - just what we needed
and when we needed it
If and it may be a big IF , Janson and Bartley can continue in this vein then
we will not concede many and with the skill and pace up front we will score
goals. I liked Bartley from the start but he needed a good partner and with
Janson , he has found that - a cult hero in the making
Not the most exciting game and not the most attractive performance BUT this was
as good as we have been for years and years, we can all sleep soundly tonight
and look forward to a bright future

Don't want to tempt fate but we were excellent today.
Hernandez ran the show - if Mowatt wants to be our number 10 long term that's
how he needs to play.
Thought Sakho was excellent too, a shocking miss second half apart. The Ipswich
full back will have nightmares about him!
Jannsson has deservedly got a lot of attention and he was good again.
Particularly liked his proper Leeds style challenge early on when he won the
ball and injured the Ipswich player!
I think one player who has been quietly putting in good displays is Bartlett.
He looks good on the ball, strong in the air and in the tackle and he does a
good job organising the defence.
Green looked good too - it's refreshing to see a keeper claiming crosses in the
box!

Not quite sure what to do with this sense of optimism!

On and on!
