Didn't make the gallon John, I was actually 5 short such was the disappointment
of the game.

I thought we were second best to a Newcastle team who I thought played in 2nd
gear. Shelvey just jogged around, found space and showed our young upstarts how
it's done. Ayling flattened him which I enjoyed but it didn't matter, he was
head and shoulders above anyone in a white shirt. His free kick with the
outside of his foot in the first half to the lively Gayle was just on another
level to anything we could conjure up. That would have been a goal but Green
was off his line quick and made a good smothering save.

I'm not going to go through the game cos you were either there or saw it on Sky.

Despite the result and the realisation that we are nowhere near the premier
league I thought we still tried to play football and at times did and for me it
was one of the better home performances. I just think without Hernandes you're
left wondering where can a goal come from ? We are improving there's no doubt
about that.

Scores:

Green -4 yes one good save but his fuck up cost us dear although I don't think
the result would have been any different as I believe Newcastle could have
upped their tempo as required. It's not the first time Green has fucked up this
season. He's just a bit on the short side.

Ayling - 8 I've giving this guy a bit of stick in the past and I've said he's
pedestrian. Well today I thought he was excellent and our best player. Full
blooded both in defence and when he came forward. Great performance.

Jansson - 7. Had his hands full with Gayle but didn't do a lot wrong. I'd like
to see their 2 nd goal again, it looked like they just took us apart.

Bartley - 7 ditto Jansson. Tried desperately to push forward and switch play
late on but it was never going to happen.

Taylor - 8. I thought that was his best game this season also, caused them
problems going forward and defended well most of the time. Did get skinned once
badly down at the Kop end.

O'Kane - 6 Again, that's the best I've seen O'Kane play. He looked a bit
quicker, a bit livelier and he got stuck in at times but his general play and
passing ability was lacking on more than one occasion. Unlucky with a header
first half.

Philips - 2. He was dreadful. I do think he has something to offer but on this
performance you're left wondering what ? He took all our set pieces and we must
have had 20 - most either hit the first black and white shirt or looped over
everyone. Terrible.

Vierra - 5. He looked a bit lost to me, poor passes and generally 2 nd best. I
think when you consider that philips and Vierra were playing against a 12
million international player it's progress.

Roofe - 6. Guy near me was giving Roofe some stick saying he's not good enough.
He then nearly scored. He looks like he's been the weights room to me and I
thought he did ok. I think he will get better. Not sure he's a left or right
winger though.

Doukara - 6. Started lively enough but wasn't in the game enough to be
effective. Again, he's no winger.

Wood - 4. Whe you look at Gayle making runs , darting in and out and then you
see Chris Wood with his back to goal not even jumping to head balls it is
frustrating. I know they are completely different types of players but I don't
think we can progress to be a top team in this league playing Wood as a line
striker up the middle. He's just not effective enough.

Subs

Antonsson - I don't think he touched the ball.

Sacko - lively but no end product.

Benitez - all the clever managers turn us around from the off if they win the
toss. It definitely unsettles us.

The atmosphere for 36,000 was shite and it was obvious there were plenty of
happy clappers here for their day trip. No problem with that but they are all
wankers.

Bring on Rotherham.
