3 valuable points -making it 6 in a week - and we go into Christmas in a play
off place so I have no real complaintsHaving said that , today was awful with
barely a shot on target all game. The first half was dire and we thought that
Monk would really lay into them and send them out all fired up after a half
when there was a real lack of commitment and skill, but the second half was
nearly as bad.The general apathy and poor play was as bad as anything seen
under Evans, Rosler or Redfearn with one big difference, under all those
managers we would have lost - but today there was a belief in the crowd and
moreĀ mportantly on the pitch that even if we never found our rythmn etc we
would not conceed and we would get at least a point/A few volleys from Ayling-
that went miles over - apart we never really created any chances but there was
a feeling that we could play all night and they would never score and so there
could be only one winner. We did up the tempo towards the end and really went
for it as they reaslied that a 0 0 was the best they could hope for , and ,
sure enough, as the clock ticked down a good cross into the box was well met by
captian Bartley and he headed home - a great finish for him and a great finish
to a poor gameSo a win wihtout our top scorer (wood) and our most creative
player (Hernandez) - a game that will soon be forgotten but oen that shows we
are genuine contenders for a play off place

Subject: Re: [LU] Brentford
My first live game of the season (ergo 9 players were making their "debuts"
for me). I was very impressed with how we stuck at it. It was agonising how
many really good ideas and moves just failed to come off, but we never
stopped trying to play football. I think Brentford deserve some credit for
being so tough to crack. A lot of performances were a bit patchy but I
don't think anybody played badly.
The back 5 were superb.
Vieira was also excellent......Phillips mercurial but did a lot of good
things......
but it was noticeable how Bridcutts presence lifted the urgency level.
Dallas had a poor first half but much better second......and made the goal
with a lovely little dink onto Bartleys head.
Sacko.........wow! Now I understand what people have been saying about
him.......but potentially what a player! Has a fantastic attitude.......he
is never disheartened by his multiple fuckups and is always ready to try
again.
Roofe.......superb but we couldn't get him in possession enough in areas
where he could hurt them.
The Duke..........my man of the match. He has such a superb and delicate
touch and absolutely runs his socks off. He was right in front of us when
his number went up to be subbed and I saw his shoulders slump for a second
in disappointment......then he immediately sprinted across the pitch
clapping the fans and gave Antonsson a good luck embrace. That epitmises
the magnificent team spirit I saw through all 14 lads who played.
