great result but really poor performance. How many times have I said that this
season. I don't think you can be too effective against Newcastle though as
their players are just cheating moaners and are looking for fouls and to
disrupt play every minute. I wouldn't like to be a Newcastle fan at this time
even if they are going up.
I think our main problem is our system. Yes you could argue, and you'd be
right, that it's got us in to the play offs and we've got a shot at promotion
but it's one dimensional and relies heavily on someone having the capability to
put the ball at Wood's feet inside the box. Most of the time we are incapable
of that especially when Hernandez is having one of his games when he looks and
plays like a headless chicken. The other providers all have their moments but
when it comes down to it I don't think any of them are good enough:
Roofe DoukaraPedrazaSacko
they all lack basic passing and ball control and Pedraza and Roofe lack pace
and acceleration.
you are then looking for a central midfielder to break from deep to support
Wood and neither do that  (Bridcutt, Vierra, Philips) as they all play deep.
So then you're relying on set pieces and Jansson and Bartley to help out and
they have and this is the area which has pulled us into the play offs.
What I'm basically saying is that despite being a really good season in
comparison to recent years we're not good enough and by playing Wood on his own
up front we are so limited we rely on our defence and keeper to keep us in it
and then hope for a set piece or one decent cross to Wood.
my scores
Green - 7. Kept us in it. I actually think he was at fault for the goal. He
came for it and then was out of position.
Ayling - 6. I think he looks decent with the ball but I think his defending at
times is ropey and they should have had a pen when he got wrong side and pulled
their man back. He tried to get things going with Roofe first half but Roofe
aint up to it.
Beradi - 5. I think he's looking more and more uncomfortable at left back. He's
always going to give you 100% but he never got anything going with Pedraza.
Taylor is the best option but he don't want to play for the club so fuck him.
Jannson - 8. Our best player as he's been most of the season.
Bartley - 7. Our second best player as he's been most of the season.
Bridcutt - 6. Limited but effective is all you can say.
Philips - 6. Ditto although I have to say, he's doing well after people like me
had written him off. He can play and he has a great engine.
Roofe - 3. Right from day one I've thought this lad is not good enough for the
division. He's lightweight, no pace and lacks basic abilities. Yes he obviously
knows where the goal is but he rarely gets himself into the positions. Sell to
Bradford.
Pedraza - 5. Good shot and one half chance but his general play is poor. He
gave the ball away twice in the first 20 minutes and seems on a different
planet to his team mates. He is one paced and didn't threaten at all. He does
have ability but I'm not sure that's enough in this league.
Wood - 7. One chance one goal and he took it really well. I also think he does
his fair share defensively in our box. However, I think the down side is that
he is slow, static and certainly isn't going to create you chances out of
nothing. If he did, he'd probably playing in the PL which is why he is not. If
we did get promotion he would have to stay in this league.
One final thing, team spirit counts for a lot and we seem to have more of that
than most and that's a big reason for our relative success this season. Big
game Monday.

The final pass and finish were both beautiful but I think Hernandez did the
hard work.

As for Wood I think he'd rather back off and not be in position rather than get
in there and miss. He's done well as his confidence has improved.  It was
incredibly frustrating a year ago watching him slow his approach. I haven't had
the chance to see him recently.
