Surely that is the case with all fans of all teams - we all know better than
the manager, and we all know what each player should do, and feel free to
criticise them when they fail to do it 100% every week. We all know how to
manage / run the club from the top down, we all know what a referee should do
in any incident and how the FA should act in any given case.
Yes, it is funny to see someone in a XXXL replica shirt call the likes of
Viduka fat or Beckford lazy, but surely that is what being a fan is all about ?
I am a fan because I am rubbish at football and always have been ! If I was any
good I would be playing, if I understood tactics etc I would run a team at some
level, but I don't. I go to the pub have a few beers with my mates, all as bad
as me, and we critise the owner, the manager and all the players all with an
air of "I could do it better"
Take that away and what would we talk about ? What would we argue about ?

I get we all have different views of being a 'fan' and what that entails - some
take it to more extreme levels than others in many ways. For what its worth I
found Rob H's original story amusing and a good piece of football 'banter' (I
hate that word but cannot think of one that sums it up better)

. You mentioned wannabees, you got that spot on. Some of these guys talk
as if they are professional football people and spout off as if they really
know about football, footballers and running a football club….. Some are
criticising a guy who has just joined the club and they are saying he is doing
wrong already. Criticising young players whom the club are giving contracts to
