and that's what I was saying all last season Dave, despite Wood's goals.
Yes he scored a shedload but I consistently said in my match reports that the
style of play with him in the side as a lone striker wouldn't be good enough
for promotion. I also think his general play is not good enough for a promotion
winning team, and so it turned out to be.
I think he will be a spectacular failure for Burnley unless they've got 2
wingers who can put the ball on sixpence in the 6 yard back week in week out. I
don't think they have.
I think the set up we've got now will involve more counter attacks and runs
from midfield which put him in strange territory for the first two league games
and he showed that when he has to think about things he doesn't have that
natural goalscorers instinct.
I have very glad to see him go and for £15 million plus ... well I'd put that
in our top 3 transfer successes of all time.

Subject: [LU] Wood / Bridcutt
It now looks like Bridcutt will be following Wood out of the door
I liked Wood and thought he was outstanding for us last year and would have got
us 20 goals this time around BUT that is because our whole game revolved around
him and our one plan was to feed him the ball so he could score (which he did)
- we can , if we get the right replacement or if Ekuban comes good, be a much
different team up front and get more players to score the same amount of
goals.I am not sure if his two misses this season are due to him not fitting
into our new way of playing or just bad luck / poor finishing. Wood liked the
ball crossed to his feet , not being played through against the keeper.
I think he will do Ok for Burnley (but don't care one way or the other) and I
do not blame any player for going to a Premier League club - the timing of
Wood's move does stink a bit - everyone knew or could anticipate after his
goals last season that someone would make an offer for him. I hope that we have
been making a few discreet enquiries behind the scenes and find a good
replacement without having to act hastily
I am impressed with Radz comments about how and why he left and even better I
like the free refund on 'Wood 9' shirts - a good move
Re Bridcutt - I liked him when he was on loan but never really got the clamour
for us to sign him. Once he became a permanent player he did have as many poor
games as good and I do prefer Vieira to him, I think Vieira has a lot more to
offer. Given that he is 5th in line for 2 positions , maybe 6th if Anita is
veiwed as a centre mid - O'Kane and Phillips look like first choice with Vieira
and Klitch as back-up, I understand why Bridcutt wants to go. I would make sure
he cannot play against us on Saturday since he is capable of doing well in any
given game.
I was very impressed with the Sunderland performance and hope that Saiz and
Alioski can really kick on from that game.
Maybe Roofe, with whom I am losing belief and patience, will get the chance to
play up front tomorrow v Newport and get a couple of goals
I know nothing about Gestede or Van Grot, two players we are being linked with
- not sure about Rhodes or Nanki Wells either - I think they have a lot of
faults in their games but in the right team they could do OK
