We're going forward this season and last gasp defending hasn't yet been
required much. That's the difference. Centre halves have a much easier
time of it if the midfield in front of them is at least competing with
the opposition. Last season, Monk pretty much gave up two thirds of the
pitch and relied on a, very good, defence. But the consequence is, more
bookings.
Simples.

Just watchig the 12 minute highlights on LUTV (I really cannot get
enough of Burton game) and have found out what a part Pontus played in
the penalty decision
We had a corner by Hernandez that Pontus headed just wide - but he was
having his shirt pulled - it was quite obvious but the ref missed it
(as they tend to do)- Pontus without screaming, shouting or getting
into the referees face, pointed out the fact that they were tugging at
his shirt
A couple of minutes later, another Hernandez corner, this time Lasogga
was having his shirt pulled but this time the ref noticed it and gave
us a the penalty. Of course he may have spotted it anyway and given
the pen but I do think Pontus bringing it to his attention and in a
decent manner must have helped him make that decision
Another thing that has been good, yesterday in particular but all
season really, is the fact that we do not seem to have many bookings -
no-one was booked yesterday - and Pontus who was booked a lot last
season and got 3(?) bans, has so far not picked up a single one.
Clearly players like him are going to get booked just for the way the
game is now and the fact they make tackles, so it is great to see him,
and the team as a whole, cut out the silly stuff
