This game proved the old adage that one goal is never enough. We were 1 0 up for 50 minutes but we always felt that we needed that second goal and it just never came. In a game of very few clear cut chances and goalmouth incident we just could not get the second - Coopers offside header and the Saiz cross that none of the three strikers could get a touch on. It was not an exciting game, as I say, very little goal threat from either team but it was entertaining in its way. The one big plus is the fact that we did not crumble when they got the goal - last time we were one up and let the other team score we lost 1 2 (Derby) and a point is not that bad a result when you group the games together - in the four games since the break (Boro,Wolves, Barnsley and Villa) we have got 7 points which would equate to 77 points with two games to go, so just about play off form It was definitely a game of two halves, we were much the better team in the first half but they shaded the second half. It wa nice to see Pontus score and myself and the lad who stands in front of me both mentioned the new set piece coach - saying he had earned £100 for that one, we spent the rest of the game giving him bonuses (eg for the one cooper headed in) and taking money off him for the bad ones - Alisoki's in the closing minutes when it went to the keeper. In all seriousness it was good to see two set pieces end up in the net. On the Alioski free kick in the last minute why did he bring Grot on after free kick - the bloke looks poor but he is a big unit so bring him on so he can be there for the set piece causing problems We did miss Hernandez when he went off - the combination of him Siaz, Alioski and the lively Ekuban caused them some problems. Ekuban does look better than Lassogga in this set up but he really does need to score - Lassogga is a genuine goal scorer whereas Ekuban so far, does not look as if he is a 'natural goal getter'.
Vieirra had his best game for us this season and Phillips was also impressive last night. So overall it was a decent enough performance and an OK result - a game we would have lost a few weeks ago The whole season is a work in progress and we need to build on it - we need to build on the Barnsley and Villa performances by picking up lots of points between now and the New Year - all winnable games QPR, Burton and Birmingham away and Hull and Norwich at home. Then assuming we do not go up through the play offs (or do not make it into the play offs) we need to keep our better players and add to it and build on this season, not start again from scratch as we have this season For those expecting a big influx of players in the January window, I think you will be disappointed, Orta has said a number of times that the January window is difficult and not many succesful transfers take place then. Hopefully we will be in the top six and then buy one or two to plug the obvious gaps Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ FLAME WARS 'R US
