to be fair he did quite wellWe won 1 0 and he scored, he also got brought down
for a penatly taken by our no9 which was saved. He started fairly slowly - this
may seem odd , but to me his boots make him seem even more ponderous than he is
, big orange boots with ankle covers (remind me of Mick Jones and his rugby
boots) Then he won a couple of headers and laid the ball off well a few
timesJust before half time he had our only on target shot of the half (they
also had only one) when he turned sharply inside the box and hit a decent shot
that was right at the keeperThis seemed to give him the confidence that is so
sadly lacking in the first team, and he got more and more involved, linking
play quite well on a few occasions. His next contribution was a mazy run in the
box when he was quite clearly tripped and the ref quite rightly pointed to the
spot. Our no9 stepped up and shot weakly towards the corner of the net but the
keeper saved easily.Grot then proved that, in time, he may have s
omething to offer when he got the ball inside the box , right in the middle of
the area, 2 yards further out than the penatly spot and fired home with enough
power and precision into the corner to make it unstoppableHe continued to do
some good stuff, mixed with some blind alley football, and we nearly went two
up when no 9 beat the offside trap rounded the keeper who had come miles out of
the area and his shot as he was being pushed very wide did not have the power
to beat the covering defendersSo a 1-0 win against a Premiership team (OK
Huddersfield) and a deserved one at that- they committed god knows how many
fouls against usSo, at last, TC and the coaches have done what many of us have
been asking for all season and given Grot (who is only 19 don't forget) a run
in a lower standard of football but one in which he can hopefully impress and
then kick on, or show that he is a waste of space and get jettisonedVery early
days but he did enough today - winning a penalty, a shot saved
and a well taken goal- to indicate that whilst he is not yet ready for the
first team he may still have a future at LeedsDavePS I see we are supposedly
giving a medical tomorrow to Sam Dalby a striker aged 18 from Orient - another
one for the future who is going to join all the others in the u23 squad
