I think the guys we brought in were okay, I'm more concerned with the gaps we haven't filled. We lost the entire spine of last season's 7th-place-finishing team - keeper, center-half, ball-winning midfielder and 30-goal-a-season center-forward - and haven't replaced any of them with a player who's as good, let alone better (although Felix has shown recent signs of improvement). It should be no surprise, therefore, that we're 10th right now. I continue to believe that this season our most glaring absence has been a dominant, no-nonsense midfielder who tackles hard, wins the ball and distributes it smartly, the sort of player that as the teams are lining up in the tunnel the opposition players glance over and think, "I don't fancy going up against him today." In Leeds terms, think Collins/Bremner/Vinnie/Batty/Dacourt. We are being overrun too often. Like everyone else, I'd like a free-scoring forward as well, but I think that if could just get better control over midfield and feed the ball to Alioski/Saiz/Hernandez, our front four will get goals.
I am also more than a little surprised that the club decided not to at least get a journeyman center-half in on loan, given the fact that if Pontus gets booked in the next game and Pennington's injury is worse than thought, we will have precisely zero senior center-halves available for the following game.
