Hi all,
I think we should let VAR settle down first before we start making too many
changes.

If we accept the accuracy of the technology in the case of small offside
decisions, which I think I do, I would say you are better off being 100%
correct than deciding whether or not it is within acceptable margins.
If the other night's goal had been given against Leeds in an important match in
spite of VAR evidence I would have been pissed off.

The cricket analogy is not quite accurate, as the 'Umpire's Call' allowance is
being used because of the possible errors in a predictive technology.

VAR will also need some adjustment from spectators. I remember when it was
brought in in Rugby Union. Tries that would previously have been unquestioned
started being disallowed because of incorrect grounding and the like. The
traditional fans bemoaned the rules taking over the spirit of the game at the
time, but it is by and large accepted now.

I think the increase in the 'soft' Penalties that Jeremy alluded to will change
things much more than getting offside decisions right, however close they are!

KOT.
