I can't find the words to say what this horrible news is doing to me right
now, but maybe the tears say enough about this man whose generous
friendship came my way simply because of Leeds United and this
extraordinary email list.

He was funny and irreverent, much more clever than he liked to admit, and
kind and big hearted with it. Saying he was sociable is a bit of an
understatement; he got on with just about everyone at just about any time.

Saying "husband and father" doesn't come close either: he absolutely adored
Kate, and being married to her, and he absolutely loved Bradley and Sidney,
and being a full-on dad to them too (he usually preferred being called
David, but the email sign off proudly changed to Dadiv and Double
Dadiv after the boys arrived.) I am praying so hard for the three of you.

Dull match days (and good match days) on Row O in the top left of the kop
were all the better for having David around, singing shouting swearing and
chatting. He thoughtfully bought me a hip flask so we could all take turns
in matchday refuelling duties, and the best matchdays also involved the
Pudsey Special bus, a takeaway form the Bismillah, and some family time in
front of the telly (and the cats).

You didn't care much for religion, David; but then (and how I wish you'd
understood) I don't either.

May you rest in peace – and rise in glory

Love,
Gav
