A very strange day and a very strange experience I am glad I was there to witness a game that felt for the most part as if it were a joint testimonial for Pablo and Berardi who had their names chanted throughout, with the crowd alternating between " pablo Hernandez he plays for United with Gaetano Berardi " the Geatano Berra song and the straightforward " pablo Hernandez " chant. Both got subbed at the same time after about an hour with Berardi first and then Pablo both milking the deserved applause ( or to quote my mate in the pub afterwards " Berardi is shit and should have been f**d off 4 years ago, the swiss make clocks not footballers" He did follow that with suggesting the club was in the shit and we need to get rid of" cooper, Ayling , klich, Bamford an Dallas, and dont get me started on Harrison the useless c*nt" Back in the real world this game showed how far we have come, last season we were neck and neck with west brom , now we are 25 or whatever points better than them and looked what we now are, a team from a higher division. We totally dominated from start till near finish. We all thought we had gone ahead early doors when Harrison rounded off a lovely move but was given offside. Then Rodrigo continued his rich run of goal scoring as he prodded home from close range after a corner was flicked on to him at the back post. Kalvin then put the game beyond doubt when a decent free kick eluded the keeper who should have done much better. Bamford " Englands number 9" as the crowd sang sealed the win with a well struck penalty after he wrestled with Raphinha for the right to take it and had to get Cooper to help him get the ball off Raph So far so good, then things turned a bit shit at the end, first a mix up between coops and kiko ( where have we seen that before?) left their lad with a simple tap in, and to really spoil the day Phillips made a totally reckless and unnecessary tackle by the touchline that meant he was down for ages and looked seriously hurt putting his Euros place in jeopardy ? The players did a lap of honour in front of 8,000 appreciative fans ,rather than the 36,000 they deserved ,all wearing masks and being socially distant rather than the scenes and limbs they would have had at the end of last season So a strange day out and a strange game but glad I was there to see it, in some ways the end of an era with Pablo Berardi and maybe Alioski ( and who knows who else ) making their farewell appearances- thanks for the memories Roll on next season and a full raucous Elland Road Dave
