Its hard to convey just how much emotion was packed into that afternoon…it has been a long time, a shit-load has happened since March 2020…but finally we got to walk up the same streets, to the same gate, the same turnstile, and after all these months up the same stairs and out into the light and The Kop and that noise…
There were tears in a lot of eyes. The game was all thunder and storm. In the end a draw seemed like a fair result. Cooper can argue all he wants but if you have hold of some opposition player’s shirt in the box, you are gifting the ref a chance to give a penalty. At this level he’s a squad player. The sooner we can get Llorente fit and pair him with Koch or Struijk, the better. Meslier - saved the game (at least) twice Ayling - is wayward at the moment and had no answer to Gray Firpo - needs to get up to speed, because despite flashes going forward, his defending looks suspect. (check the build up to their second goal) Cooper - (see above) Struijk - i don’t see his developing into a successful midfielder at this level, but with some specialist training he can make a good centre half Phillips - was weirdly off the pace (dreadful spelling of giving the ball away), then on top of the game, before tailing off again presumably fatigue - I hope Forshaw has enough in the tank to be good cover for him, because we need it. Dallas - is a solid gold beast of a player - turns up everywhere Harrison - wanted to get involved but was nearly always double or treble-marked as soon as he got the ball Raphinha - ditto - but he is faster, hungrier and trickier than Harrison - unstoppable shot for the equaliser, you just knew it was in as soon as you saw him setting himself for the strike Bamford - had a running battle with their unit at the back - set up the first and arguably might have had a penalty at the death - he looks leaner this season and faster. Roberts & Shackleton came on and pushed us forward, as a group, without achieving a great deal individually. One of the commentators said, as we scored, “there’s no point in trying to compete with that noise, Leeds have equalised.” One of my favourite days at Elland Road.
