UK OFFICIAL Great reports from those at the game. Makes me wish I was there despite the result.
Not to go into too much else, but I actually thought that Koch having to go off changed the complexion of the game as MB had actually picked a slightly more solid team, but then did not have the options to keep it that way without Koch. As Dave said, the defenders all individually look OK until they do something wrong! Would like to see Firpo run back as fast as he runs forward. Scum’s 2nd and 3rd goals might have been prevented if he had been racing back to make up the numbers. Even though they were quick breaks it is amazing how much ground you can make if you are committed enough. Probably been said before that Struijk was sent off v Liverpool largely on the result of his challenge rather than the nature of it. McTominay’s was not even reviewed and had more intent in that the body-check was deliberate. Also, how inadequate are the Head Injury and Blood protocols? It seems there is finally the idea of temporary substitutions being put forward – about 15 years late!! Very lastly – I still can’t make sense of the fact that the bigger gaps in the squad appear to be in attacking positions. No backup for Bamford, no successor for Hernandez. Yet it is the defensive record that is killing us at the moment. Probably missing Phillips’ ability to plug gaps when we over-commit in spite of the fact that Koch and Forshaw have done OK in that role. KOT.
