Very strange walking out of ER after a 4 0 drubbing ( albeit final score was a bit harsh) joining in the whole ground singing " we all love Leeds " a chant that had lasted 10 minutes or so and continued through their 4th as if it had not happened. Marsch and the team having done some sort of lap of honour (?) to acknowledge the crowd - Raph was especially odd just standing there looking bemused at our reaction. If fans could win points we would be top of the league, unfortunately, that ' crowd worth a goal start' is not true and even one goal would not have helped today There were some other good bits as the team stuck to their task and gave it everything we could ask for from these players, unfortunately wherever you looked on the pitch or on the bench they had players who were much better. So it was an uphill battle in which our mistakes made it harder - letting in the first 2 goals from straight forward set pieces was criminal. Ok the delivery for the first was good but that does not excuse KP misjudging the flight of the ball and giving him a free header, equally the second, Struik was slow to react when the ball was headed back towards goal. 3rd goal was what I expected from them, totally carving us open, and the 4th was just cruel on us. We went to the ground in decent spirits - the Moot Hall was rammed and a real party with a singalong to the juke box, - but no one really thought we would get any points. The mood was dampened a bit by Burnley winning ( bastards) but we were up for it. Then we find out that Cooper , the main reason behind our 2 clean sheets was injured in the warm up. Despite that we started ok and could have had an early goal when their player slipped and Rodrigo was free and clear on the half way line, unfortunately his lack of pace and awareness meant it came to nothing- maybe Raph or James , if he had started , would have scored, in the same circumstances but it just fizzled out. We had chances at 2-0 with Raph having a great shot blocked and then James rounded the keeper but his shot lacked venom and was cleared off the line. Then at 3-0 we could have had a consolation as Greenwood and Geldhart had shots blocked as city defended with commitment, and Joffy brought a good save by the keepers feet before the final sucker punch. I don't watch much football so did not realise how much City fall over, play act and generally cheat, with Jack Grealish by far the worst offender, he was terrible at Villa but has taken it to a new level- really horrible to watch. No wonder the fans pelted then with the blue yellow and white pieces of paper distributed in the Family Stand , the idiots even threw some at Raphinha. So we are well and truly in the mire, our woes added to by a serious looking injury to Dallas, but in some weird way, I loved it, mainly down to the amazing old style atmosphere- perhaps this club is not meant for the sanitised decorum of the Prenier league. Play with that effort and passion in our remaing 4 games and there is still hope but I do think we are now favourites for that dreaded 3rd from bottom place. To make things worse we had to put up with a small group of city fans going through their whole repertoire of songs on the way back, with songs about Balitelli and Aguero- to be fair their anti scum songs were good, Neville incest one and Guggs bring illegitimate have been sung by us but the Rooney granny shagging one was funny and new to me. Having said that them and their team make we want Real Madrid to turn them over this week
So a decent performance, a bad result, but a cracking day out " we all love Leeds, we all love Leeds ad infinitum Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ Rest in Peace Guy, and wear your hat!
