UK OFFICIAL Well I've not posted too much lately as I struggled to find anything positive to say. Relegation looked like the most likely scenario when the club failed to strengthen the team in January, and the never ending stream of injuries was going to be too much to overcome.
The replacing of Bielsa with Marsch was always going to be a binary decision. Relegation = failure, Survival = Success. Whilst I thought some of his selections were a bit bizarre, he did not have a lot of choice. He inherited a small injury-hit squad, with obvious short-comings even at full strength. Yesterday, I wondered what on earth Greenwood was doing in midfield. But having him man-mark Erikson was a master-stoke. Erikson was subdued by a younger man, apart from his set-pieces, and Greenwood even had time to get involved with the ball himself Going into the last game I put survival chances at 1 in 5. But despite looking nervous, and even managing to vulnerable against 9 men, they got through. IMO 6 signings will be needed to be more comfortable next season, and that is without having to replace Raphinha which must be odds-on. Hopefully Phillips will stay around for another season. Bielsa managed to get average players to perform super-humanly for 3 years. I thnik Marsch will have to rely on just getting better players to perform to expectations. But I think he deserves the chance with a squad that he will have at least some say in developing. All the best KOT. PS. I am retiring from work on Thursday, so after nearly 30 ys will be unsubbing from the list with this address. Hopefully will be back from a new address as soon as I can work out how to do it, and John lets me go nomail so I catch up from the web digest. UK OFFICIAL UK Shared Business Services Ltd.
