Like Rich, I think the relegation battle is on already? In a tight league teams have worked out how to play us/the refs, and tactically we are a conundrum. The flooding of small areas, like the left side, and playing fast one touch football is like Bielsa ball, but with no end result. We do have some decent players, but Marsch’s team set-up isn’t working, his substitutions (and timing) are perverse, and I don’t think this ‘style’ of football works! It is, with a few exceptions, shite to watch - it isn’t just the losing, it’s what Marsch’s tactics produce in terms of both teams and the game, fouls, diving, time-wasting etc - we go ploughing in at speed and refs will always give fouls, especially with the advanced thespian skills many players now have! We moan every game about the refs, but it is how we play that is the root cause!
I thought Struijk was superb yesterday, and Rasmus definitely had his most impressive performance, but there are issues all over the pitch - creating chances, scoring, basic defending/concentration - for all Marsch’s babble about processes and being a determined group blah blah blah, he over-complicates what is a simple game. I’m not a fan of his approach, and less so with every game! He seems incapable of change - isn’t that exactly why we got rid of Marcello? Didn’t we bring Corboran back into the club? I wonder?
