I’m still not sure where I feel on the whole saga here. I quite liked Marsch as a person, his ‘americanness’ didn’t bother me and he did keep us up last season - with a fair bit of luck right at the end. (Brentford down to 9 men).
However, the results were not going well and he seemed to be running out of ideas and excuses. I’m not sure how many possible replacements have been chased, but I think it is fair to say that anyone who was considered a candidate beforehand has been approached and refused. Whether it was right to sack Marsch without a replacement lined up is now at least questionable. Some of the names quoted, Gerard and this guy from Ajax would never have been on my list. In fact I’m not sure whether I would have backed any of those touted in. Premier League relegation scrap. So do we remain in Limbo for a while, put Skoobs in temporary charge, or pursue somebody who would have been nowhere near the top ten on anyone’s list 2 weeks ago. The added irony is that Marsch may well be in charge at Southampton by the time we play them and it looks rather ridiculous if we haven’t got a permanent manager in by then. Of course this will be a game we must win, and their manager will be perfectly briefed on how to beat us.
