Well that was easy.  A very straightforward 3-0 with both their efforts comjng
from set pieces when already 3 down and both saved by Meslier without too much
fuss. The only other scare was when a back pass almost went past Meslier
Before the game the general vibe was good , with fans talking of 5 and 6 nil,
but there was the spectre of Barnsley 89 under Wilko, and Wigan at Easter under
Bielsa,  both times when teams with the worst away records came to fortress
Elland Road, with us having the best home record in the Division and somehow
winning , so us old heads were taking nothing for granted.
We settled the  nerves early on , when , the again excellent Firpo ( he is good
when no defending is involved) put a lovely cross in that was bundled in by
Bamford.  They all moaned and complained about him using his elbow / arm, i
just think it was justice done - if  that part of his arm was offside v Palace
then it can be used to score- sorted
We then did our 'usual', creating plenty of chances but not putting the game to
bed. Bamford had a chance but the ball stuck behind him a bit so his shot was
weak, then both Gnonto and Gray from similar positions on the right side of the
penalty area , brought decent saves from the keeper.
So 1 up at half time to be further cheered by the dog botherers being 2 up at
Southampton ( typically they blew it and fid us no favours)
Second half was much of the same , a brilliant early goal that ended it as a
contest ( if it ever really was) Our 2 most exciting and entertaining players
combined,  Georginio left 2 men on the floor and slid the ball through to
Summerville who took it on, beat a man, drew the keeper and slotted home.
The scoreline got even better on the hour as a clear trip on Summerville led to
a penalty,  Bamford picked it up as if to take it again but this time handed it
to Summerville,  who , brimming with confidence,  took it Panenka style ,
lovely stuff.
We could  have had more as Bamford had a shot deflected onto the bar, his
follow up blocked and that follow up blasted over by Gnonto,  who also had a
rasping drive just past the post ( we applauded his effort because we were 3 up
- at 0 0 it woukd have been classed as a bad miss)Roberts came on for 15 mins
for his debut and Josep got the same amount of game time. Charlie Cresswell
also got a few minutes at the end to show his earlier attitude issues were
forgiven by DF and forgotten by the crowd, all good things with the intense
fixture list.
So all in all a good comfortable victory, there are tougher challenges coming
but we are looking solid at the back, comfortable in midfield,  and creating
lots up top, with plenty of options in personnel and positions to take us
forward as and when needed
Looking good
Dave
