Well that was a pretty poor start to the year.
In recent weeks all opposition managers have said how much better than everyone
else in the division we are
The big bad wolf of the championship if you will
Well Stoke built their defence of straw and we blew them away, Derby built
theirs of sticks and we blew them away. Unfortunately Blackburn had read the
script and built theirs of brick and we huffed and puffed but could not blow it
down
We barely made a dent in them. They came with a game plan, and they stuck to it.
They were Well drilled, well disciplined and kept their concentration,  in
between time wasting and niggly fouls,  even the 15 minutes added on in   total
did not help us, in dire game played in a soporific atmosphere,  though to be
fair the players gave us nothing to be excited about.Tanaka and Rothwell,  re -
United,  had their worst game, James was totally ineffective and Piroe did his
Mr invisible routine.
Things were pretty bad , not helped overall by Byram going off at half time and
Bogle soon after, possibly both joining Firpo in the treatment room.
I would be mainly OK if it had stayed at 0 0 . Put it down to fatigue and
decent opposition who, like Southampton last time, seem to have our number.I
feel worse because with 87minutes gone we won the game. A ball into the box,
Joseph ended up on the floor and the ref gave  a penalty. All we needed to do
for 3pts was score , and under immense pressure Struik did so with some style.
A hard fought scrappy victory that we just about deserved on points.

Instead we let them have pretty much their first attacks of the game, then with
their first (?) corner , all our old problems resurfaced. We failed to clear
and they poked home.Wober with a stinging shot from a tight angle did try to
rectify things but it was 2pts thrown away
I should have expected a bad day when I woke up to see all trains from
Manchester to Leeds had been cancelled,  luckily ( or maybe not in the circs)
a mate was able to give me a lift.
So bad start to 2025 made slightly better by Burnley also throwing 2pts away
against easier opposition,  and Sheff utd losing all 3 points.
Anyway happy new year to you all. Let's beat Hull on Saturday and this game can
be filed away and forgotten
Dave
