Why would they need to go to court to take sanctions against the member?
It's a private membership scheme and they are free to kick out anyone they
want to really.

I don't think anything can be done legally to stop people selling their
tickets on.  Worse case scenario for the new buyer is that the ticked is
voided and they have lost their money, worst case scenario for the seller is
they lose their membership.

That's why I thought it strange that the club put the thing on the website
about tickets on ebay and W Yorks Police being involved.. wtf have the
police got to do with anything?  It was/is a scare tactic.
