demanding automatic promotion at the start of the season.
I don't know if I publicly "demanded" it, but I certainly thought it should have been our minimum goal. Blackwell has had two close seasons to build a side, a pile of Bates' cash to do it with, and a potentially massive home support to intimidate the opposition with. He bought a bunch of strikers, then decided it would be better if most of them played as wingers, midfielders or didn't play at all. He bought an international winger, then decided he would be better as a central midfielder/substitute. He didn't buy any dominating midfielders who could stamp their authority on a game. There can be no more excuses. We should have gone up this year. We must next year.
