Boss confirms Premiership loan target Thu, Sep 07 2006 12:20

Leeds United boss Kevin Blackwell says he has opened talks with Blackburn
Rovers over a possible loan swoop for defender Dominic Matteo
United were put on red alert the other day after Blackburn boss Mark Hughes
said he was ready to send Matteo out on loan to revive his career, and
Blackwell admitted talks are ongoing.
However, despite Hughes saying he is willing to allow Matteo to go out on loan
to Leeds, Blackwell says he will only do the deal if Rovers agree to meet part
of the player's wages.

Blackwell told the Yorkshire Post: "Me and Dominic have had a chat and I will
have to weigh up my options.

"He is someone that interests me but I have a wish-list in my heart that I
cannot always get. We have to remember Dom left here not because of anything,
but his money. The players earning big money in the Premiership had to go.

"We can give a contribution (towards a loan player's wages) but sometimes it is
not good enough."

Matteo, who has dropped down the pecking order at Rovers following the signing
of Andre Ooijer, originally joined Leeds in August 2000 from Liverpool for
£4.25million, but left for Rovers on a free transfer.
