TADCASTER SIGN FORMER PREMIERSHIP PLAYER

Northern Counties East League Division One club Tadcaster Albion have pulled
off quite a coup by signing ex-Leeds United and former England under-21 star
Mark Ford. Ford is unable to play every week due to work commitments but
will be a major part of the squad when he can. Pontefract-born, Ford began
his career at Elland Road as a trainee. He moved up through the junior
ranks, and earned two England under-21 international caps. Whilst at Elland
Road, he was a member of their 1993 FA Youth Cup-winning side that beat a
Manchester United team including David Beckham, Paul Scholes and the Neville
brothers in the Final. After making over 40 first-team appearances for
Leeds, he was sold by George Graham to Burnley for £250,000 in 1997. From
there, he went on a free to Belgium club Lommel in 1999 for one season, and
on returning to England he joined Torquay, before being signed by Darlington
in February 2001 for a £15,000 fee. At the end of the 2002/03 season, he had
a loan spell in the Nationwide Conference at Leigh RMI and last played
regularly for Nationwide North side Harrogate Town. He knows a number of
Tadcaster's players from the York Sunday Morning League where he used to
manage a team. Albion hope that, when he plays, Ford's presence will be a
major benefit to the youngsters in the team and they can learn a great deal
from him.
