Based on the radio reports and the TV highlights, David's report sounds spot on. We would never have expected to get anything out of this game even at the start of the season when promotion was one the agenda; and six weeks ago, I would have expected to have shipped at least four goals against a Cardiff side that's far higher in the table that us who were playing at home to a team they're historically motivated to play well against. (I was at Luton, and things looked pretty dark then.)
So... disappointed to lose 1-0, of course, but with ten men and from a set play? There are worse ways of shipping a goal. Sure, against nine we should have scored. But we can probably stay up now with six more wins and I'm starting to believe that the team has enough guts and the manager enough of a clue to get that done. Mind you, I've applied for a ticket to Derby on the basis that any of three outcomes is still possible: it's a celebration of a tough, tough season where we stayed up; that it's a farewell to the division and we set the tone for a promotion campaign next term; or that we need something from the game to remain in the Championship and it'll be a cracker.
