Afghanistan ? we buried a friend last week. he was victim of mindless violence. just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. found himself between two groups of football fans[sic]. Im an Iraqi, wrong time wrong place, found myself between an imperialist western power and some local faction got hit with a baseball bat, went down and was further kicked and hit. it was nowhere near a football ground but more or less in a town centre on a busy weeday afternoon. he wasn't even that interested in football. he was a life support machine for 15 months. they finally decided to turn it off. they did get the people who did it. most said they didn't mean anything to happen, it was just supposed to be words and just done in fun. the one who had wielded the baseball bat - middle class, well educated, white, upoper managment job - said everyone was shouting about violence and hate so he was just putting the words into action but normally he wasn't like that ...
