I also don't really hate Ridsdale, but that is because I know he is a Leeds supporter and just got carried away with it.
However, for the sake of argument, let's imagine the roles reversed for a second. Bates was in charge of Leeds, we were doing great with primarily youngsters, no personal money invested into the club etc etc but then he chased the champions league and to do so hocked the ground and even the players. I believe Ridsdale chased the champions league purely for the glory of LUFC and one might argue that Bates' motive for chasing would have been financial/ego related, however the point remains that we had a very very good young side but then we mortgaged the ground and had players bought via some other finance company, to buy the Seth Johnsons of this world. It is entirely possible that the team we had would have developed into the team we dreamed of, but the impatience killed us. It was a huge gamble he took with other people's money, and if he lost then we were up shit creek. And we did lose. I somehow think if Bates had done that you might have a different opinion about what the cause of the trouble we have today was! One could also argue that the prof was as much to blame as Bates, he presided over our relegation, he was the one who sacked and unsacked a manager based on a supporters opinion poll - what did that do to team morale when we needed it most?!? _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
