Wise apparently to get 3 times salary increase for accepting an unspecified
position under KK at Newcassell. YEP reports mentioned "Wise's roll" at
Newcastle as Director of Football. Wise was on a one year rolling contract
at Leeds so compo will not be in the Kewell class.
IMO this shows serious lack of long-term personal ambition on Wise's part,
unless he hopes to step into the big job at the Toon when KK burns out
(again). If he had stayed at Leeds and got us promoted, once or twice, he
would have proven himself and enhanced his long-term position. As it is, he
has had half a good season at Leeds and then buggered off.
We now have a batch of new signings, with most of them having personal
background with Wise. This has already disrupted the continuity of the
season, while we wait for the team to re-gel.
The transfer window closes in a few days and the team is probably going to
be unsettled by Wise's departure. Money talks at Leeds so expect some cheeky
approaches for our better players. Hopefully Rui is not following events too
closely and that his agent is having this week off.
I'll bet the Cuddly One is regretting launching the ST increases too soon.
Will Bassett stick around while we find another manager, or decide that he
doesn't need the grief either?
