Don’t disagree with anything Rich W has said really. This was just too easy –
they were as poor a team as have ever set foot in Elland Road.. My comments
about Huddersfield last week giving more than 100% seemed to be born out with
their Cup Final victory being followed by a defeat – Hereford after their
memorable victory over us also did a Walsall and managed to lose their next
game – it just shows how much effort physical and mental they put into games
against us ! At least Cheltenham did not seem able to do the same. Grayson
seemed (like me) to have lost faith in Trundle and I cannot see his loan being
extended again, and let Snodgrass play up front –often in a three with Becchio
and Robinson. All three of them did well and worked hard and all should and
could have got on the score sheet hitting the woodwork a few times between
them. Howson kept his place and this worked both for him – showing the form of
last season and for Delph who was
shifted to the left where he did not have to do everything himself. In fact
that is one thing I do disagree with Rich on – I am fairly sure it was a superb
ball by Delph not Becchio that let Howson get across the defender and slot in
his second (like Rich I was watching through beer \ drug goggles). Howsons
first was good too – a lovely cross from Robbo was met outside the 6 yd box by
the leaping Howson who glanced it with power into the net.
We basically walked this game and they were so poor they never put us under any
pressure this meant that neither of the stand in right backs – Hughes and
Douglas were tested, and nor was Parker (now once again ahead of Sheehan in the
pecking order) tested defensively and as we know that is his weakness. Also
their total lack of quality and commitment meant that Kilkenny was able to
stroll around the park pulling the strings – his best game since his debut v
Northampton – can he do it week in week out in this midfield though.
So a comfortable win – the 4th in a row at ER – a clean sheet and two goals
without Beckford ( we did feel, especially  at 0 0 at half time, that he would
have had a hatful if he had been playing)
We have two much tougher games coming up against Scunthorpe and Oldham (will
the 2 scunny lads sent off yesterday be banned ?) – and these games will go a
long way to determining our season. Grayson will have decisions to make – who
makes way for Beckford ? Has Kilkenny done enough to keep his place ? Who will
be right back ? (there is paper talk of getting someone in on loan from Pompey)
But back to winning ways and an enjoyable day out – good crowd considering and
they gave the team support even when it was not quite working – I was expecting
a few boos at half time but did not hear any
Dave
On a different note I have just read on local teletext that the police have
apologised to Everton fans for changing the time \ day of one of their games
due to a BNP rally – funny  how they never apologise when they alter our kick
off details !!
