Well i think in East Anglia's case its a combination of;
1) Lots of people having no local team to automatically support - which was
partly the case with me - no club within 20 miles.
2) Kev who runs the EA branch 'persuading' people to come with us.

Though the branch is very much in line with the rest of Leeds support nowadays
- lots of 40 odd year old blokes.

I've noticed that a bit. There seems to be a lot of random no obvious link
brummie and "fenland/peterbourgh area" leeds fans.

Been on holiday in Suffolk recently, and whilst in Framlingham I thought it
was nice to see in the window of the local sportswear shop a big Ipswich
Town flag and Ipswich Town kit on display.  Ipswich is after all their local
big club.

Compare this to the main sports shop in Leeds city centre which has scum,
chelsea scum, arse, and cesspool kits hanging in its window and behind the
counter, with not a Leeds shirt in sight!  Disgusting.

Although to be fair it's not all bad in Leeds, as HMV in the White Rose do
have a Leeds section, even if it does seem a bit odd in between all the DVDs
and CDs.

I also had a chat with home kit wearing Leeds fan in Southwold, which was
nice.  He came from Norwich and said there's a big Leeds contingent there.
I'm familiar with the East Anglia Branch.  I wonder why Leeds is so popular
there?
