THE AGIT PROP CAUCUS is a new formation. Perhaps it
would be truer to say that its 'form' is for the
moment an occasional newsletter available via
subscription.
Its charter is to explore the ways and means of
cultural activism while being ever ready to link up
with and support initiatives in that direction.
So the APC is not so much about any particular form
but content.
Generally this emphasis is referred to as Cultural
Activism -- using cultural and artistic means to
advocate social change.
We're non specific in our preferences. As far as we're
concerned Cultural Activism is relevant to labor,
ethnic groups, women, gays and lesbians; to ecological
issues; human rights; international solidarity;
racism...basically to the broad spectrum of all human
struggles for a better world.
We come into the picture because we are keen on
encouraging those struggles to utilize greater
creativity.
Often underutilized, fossilized and misunderstood,
cultural activism is one of the Left's most efficient
tools for organizing, inspiring, disseminating
information and encouraging folks to join struggles
large and small.
To that end The Agit Prop Caucus is primarily an
occasional newsletter which acts as a forum for ideas
and news about Cultural Activism -- mainly in
Australia but also of events and initiatives
internationally. We hope in time to establish a
network of activists who can draw on each other for
support and input when requested.
In as much as we have a game plan, the APC is keen to
link up with theatre groups, graphic artists,
cartoonists, song writers, musicians,
poets...whatever-- all those who pledge themselves to
commiting their creativity to social change.
