The Sydney Morning Herald 1 Dec 1998 http://www.smh.com.au/news/9812/01/text/national8.html Qld One Nation head quits Date: 01/12/98 By GREG ROBERTS The president of One Nation's powerful Queensland division, Mr Tom King, has resigned, and many of the 302 branches nationally have failed to respond to an appeal to declare their support for the party's leadership. However, One Nation's chief strategist, Mr David Oldfield, and national director, Mr David Ettridge, hailed the outcome of a special weekend conference of its Queensland division as a "ringing endorsement" of the party's controversial structure. Mr King, who has privately supported moves by party dissidents to oust Mr Oldfield and Mr Ettridge, declined to comment on his resignation. Ms Pauline Hanson, the party's full-time national president, has taken over as Queensland president. In a letter sent to all branches in October, Mr Ettridge said he, Mr Oldfield and Ms Hanson had been blamed for One Nation's disappointing Federal election result, and asked for declarations of support. Mr Ettridge said 120 of the 302 branches had sent such letters.
