Support Democratic Rights in Malaysia.
Tian Chua,labour and human rights activists, has been jailed. We are demanding
his release.
Over recent months a mass movement for democratic change has grown in Malaysia.
It encompasses workers, students, women and human rights organisations, all
calling for democratic rights and economic justice. There have been regular
demonstrations. The Malaysian government has responded with violent police
attacks and the arrest of leading activists.
SUARAM (Suara Rakyat Malaysia - Voice of the Malaysian People) requests messages
of support for Tian Chua and other activists arrested.
We join the Malaysian people in demanding:
* The immediate release of Tian Chua, coordinator of the Labour Resource
Centre in Kuala Lumpur, and other activists.
* The repeal of the Internal Security Act (which allows indefinite detention
without trail) and the release of those detained under the act.
* The respect of peoples' democratic and civil rights and the upholding of
international human rights conventions by the Malaysian government. We demand
that peoples' rights to free speech & assembly; the rights to form associations
and independent unions; the free expression of sexuality and right to a fair
trial, be upheld.
