With reference to the earlier posting by the New International Bookshop
regarding Wendy Lowenstein's new edition of her book, please note that the
pamphlet "WAR ON THE WATERFRONT" (about the Patrick's dispute) written by
the Brisbane Defend Our Unions Committee will be available from the New
International Bookshop from Friday 4 December.
The pamphlet looks both at the inspiring elements of the mass struggle by
wharfies and their supporters and the lessons that we can learn from the
successes of the campaign. It also asks the question: why, when the
Government and the employers were on the ropes, did the wharfies have to
give up so much? How was it that a campaign that had so much potential and
which drew in tens of thousands of union activists end up with 700 wharfies
out of a job, more than half the remaining workforce casualised, and the
pressure of work intensified to intolerable levels?
The pamphlet is 64 pages long and priced at just $4.
