December 10 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of HumanRights. To celebrate and mark this occasion, signatures and letters ofsupporthave been flooding in from NGO�s and celebrities from around the world whosubscribe to the Manifesto of the International Lesbian and Gay Association(ILGA), �Lesbian and Gay Rights are Human Rights�. ILGA Co-Secretaries General, Jennifer Wilson in Sydney and Jordi Petit inBarcelona declare: �It is an honor and a privilege for us to publicly present our list of signatures in support of ILGA on the occasion the 50th Anniversary ofthe Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year also marks the 20th Anniversary of our federation and in January this year, ILGA attained NGO consultative status at the Council of Europe. We wish to thank all the NGO�s and individuals who have signed ILGA�s Manifesto - The Rights of Lesbians and Gays are Human Rights - . Among all the signatures that we have received, we are thrilled to count amongsth our supporters Amnesty International (AI), the World Association for Sexology (WAS), LACCASO (Latin America AIDS Network), as well as famous Latin entertainers such as Ana Bel�n and Joan Manuel Serrat, the Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr. Manuel Mar�n, European Parliament Vice-President Mr. Antonio Gutierrez, Spanish trade unions CCOO and UGT, Italy�s CGIL and the trade union for Brazilian journalists... We live in a world where homosexuality remains illegal in 80 countries, with capital punishment still practised by some of those countries against their lesbian and gay citizens. Today we proclaim more than ever that the rights of Lesbians, Gay men, Bisexuals and Transgender individuals are Human Rights.� The support for the manifesto was wide and incredibly diverse. Signatures were received from all over the world. We have developed democratic institutions and civil societies. Respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms is a condition for successful social and political life in all societies. We must recognize equality and respect diversity. On the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we bear witness to the strengthening concern of peoples and societies for human rights. A fundamental part of human rights in our time is the recognition of the right of individuals to develop their personalities, identities and sexuality, free from coercion or discrimination. We condemn the discrimination and oppression that continues in many States, including criminal sanctions and even the death penalty. In solidarity with ILGA, we demand full equality before the law for gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered persons. We demand the end of criminal penalties. We seek laws prohibiting discrimination. We demand the full and equal recognition of relationships. We look forward to the inclusion of equality rights, irrespective of sexual orientation, in national laws and international human rights instruments. Together we can all make a better life for each other and for future generations. Gay and lesbian rights are human rights. Condenamos la discriminaci�n y opresi�n que todav�a existe en muchos estados que incluye sanciones criminales y hasta la pena de muerte por causa de orientaci�n sexual. En solidaridad con ILGA, exigimos completa igualdad ante la ley con respecto a lesbianas, gays, bisexuales y transexuales. Exigimos el fin de las condenas criminales. Avalamos leyes que prohiban la discriminaci�n. Exigimos igual y total reconocimiento de las relaciones de pareja.
