Melbourne's Serbs protest over media bias
MELBOURNE:(South News)April 6: Members of Melbourne's Serbian community
held a candlelight rally against the NATO airstrikes in Yugoslavia last
night and accused the Australian media of biased reporting.
About 200 people conducted a peaceful protest outside the Southbank
offices of the Herald and Weekly Times and ABC, ABC Radio reported today.
A spokesman for the group, Dr Alexander Suvic, said Australians were not
getting the full story.
"We are asking the media to do their job properly to have an impartial
view, not to base their views on CNN, NBC and single sided
presentations of what's been happening," he said.
"They should seek the truth from all the sides involved and should
show the suffering of all the people involved in that war."
"On the TV we see only one side, the horrific suffering of all the people in
Yugoslavia unfortunately is not shown across the country, it's shown only
at the borders," he said.
"This has actually disturbed all of us and we of course feel sympathy but
the problem is that we should never forget that this suffering has been
caused by NATO bombing, the NATO bombing has caused a disaster in that
country which otherwise could have been avoided."
Dr Subic said it will target other media outlets in the next few days
for not giving equal coverage to Serb suffering in Yugoslavia
