GULF WAR PRISONER DENOUNCES FURTHER BOMBARDMENT OF IRAQ

"Further bombardment of Iraq would be an act of wholesale terror", said
Ausralian peace activist Ciaron O'Reilly. O'Reilly served 13 months in
various U.S. prisons for his nonviolent disarmament of a B-52 Bomber on the
eve of the 1991 Gulf War. He is presently awaiting trial in Darwin for
disabling uranium mining equipment this year at the Jabiluka site.

O'Reilly continued, "World Health Organisation estimates between 700,000
and 1 million Iraqi children have died due to U.S. bombardment, the plagues
they have unleashed and the continued sanctions that have undermined any
health care response. If the world is looking for a weapon of mass
destruction in Iraq, the most effective killer would be the sanctions that
we are sustaining. Topping up these sanctions with "drive-by" cruise
missile attacks from the U.S. Navy and Air Force entrenches Saddam and
punishes innocent Iraqis. This seven year war against ordinary Iraqis must
be brought to a halt. The issue of weapons inspections must be broadened
to the whole region and seperated from the issue of sanctions. Australia
should halt all exports of uranium to the United States until the effects
of the 14,000 shells of Depleted Uranium fired by U.S. forces in the Gulf
War are fully investigated."
