Rally against clearfell logging of Otway's Native Forest

10:00am Sunday 20th of December 1998

Meet at Lorne Foreshore Carpark.

11:00am Proceed from Lorne to nearby logging coupe for picnic,
surveying of logging operation and bushwalks.

OREN activists are currently staging a camp and picket on the track leading
to the Garvey's Crk Coupe. Log trucks are being turned away as no guarantee
can be given that trucks will be allowed out again. Because of the activist
presence and poor weather the logging crew in the coupe has only manage
around 20hrs work over the last 3 weeks. Police have attended a few times
but no arrests have been made. Though a presence is being maintained,
activist numbers are low and new people are required to give the current
group a break and swell numbers.

The Garvey Crk Coupe is in the headwaters of the Cumberland River. The
Cumberland River remains one of the few relatively untouched rivers in
Victoria.

If you intend to come down please note that as OREN's campaigns are run
from the Otway region, there are very few OREN vehicles travelling to and
from Melbourne. We are sorry but we can not offer transport to Lorne from
Melbourne.
