Dear Friend, 1st February, 1999

Justice Action would like to invite you and organisations
to participate at a forum on law and order on Tuesday 23 February
1999. The forum will take place in the Theatrette at Parliament
House NSW, from 3pm to 5pm. It will be chaired by Quentin Dempster.

The forum will be an opportunity for a cross-section of political
parties to present their pre-election law and order policies and
for the media and public to scrutinise and ask questions of them.

Six political parties will be asked to present their policies and
views on the main causes of crime, ways to counter crime and their
opinion on a range of issues such as:

       increasing police powers and weaponry
       drug law reform
       prisoners' right to vote
alternatives to increasing police and prisons, e.g. restorative
justice and the Young Offenders Act.

The media and a wide range of community groups have been invited
to raise issues and questions to the panel of political parties.
The afternoon will be a high profile media opportunity to raise concerns
with the direction of the election debate, shortly before the election.

We look forward to your participation. If you would like any more
information or to discuss further please contact me on 02 9281 5100.

Yours sincerely

Kilty O'Gorman
