Job hunters rise to new level
The number of people actively looking for work has risen to its
highest level since 1975.
The Bureau of Statistics says 922,600 were either job hunting or
available for work in September last year.
It found there were around 3.6 million Australians aged between 15
and 69 who were not in the labour force.
The Bureau says the most common reasons for not looking for work
were attributed to child care, attending an educational
institution, injury and pregnancy.
There were an estimated 110,900 discouraged jobseekers in
September, a fall of 6 per cent from the previous year.
