Cuban poet, essayist & journalist, who became symbol of Cuba's struggle for independence. The popular song "Guantanamera" is based on a poem by Marti'. Worked on underground papers & sent to jail & forced into exile (three columns & you're out?) After moving to the US, fled from the Land of the Free when rightwing HUAC comes after him during the Cold War. 1917 - American labor agitator Tom Mooney falsely convicted of fatal bombing.
