Gordonstone Picket Heats Up:
CFMEU members have been maintaining a peaceful picket at the Gordonstone
coal mine in central Queensland since the 1st of October, 1997, when then
owners of the mine - US mining corporation ARCO - sacked its unionised
workforce. Some weeks ago, Rio Tinto took over at Gordonstone & has since
inflamed the dispute by bussing in non-union scabs employed under an
agreement from which the union was excluded. Jim Landley [QLD District Vice
President, CFMEU].

Lock Out The Landlords:
is the title of a pamphlet launched in Melbourne late last month which
documents the struggles of unemployed & working class people during the
1930s depression, with a particular focus on eviction actions. Iain Mcintyre
is the author of the pamphlet & himself has been part of more recent
eviction struggles & the squatters rights movement. The pamphlet is
available from all good radical bookshops or from PO Box 199, East Brunswick
Victoria 3057 for $2.50 (including postage).

Senate Rejects Unfair Dismissal Regulations:
In February the Senate voted to disallow the Federal governments unfair
dismissal regulations introduced late last year. Renata Musilino [Education
& Training Officer, LHMWU].

Dita Sari:
Dita Sari is a labour activist & Chairperson of the PPBI in Indonesia. She's
been in jail since 1996 for her union activities. Vanessa Hearman [ASIET]
reads a special IWD message from Dita Sari to a rally in Melbourne. The
message was addressed to her supporters in Australia & smuggled out of her
prison cell. Thanx to 3CRs Rachel Maher for this material.
