The resident's fight to save the historic house at No1 Sussex Street and
stop McDonlds from building store No 6 in Moreland is as strong as ever .
Last Tuesday the hearing of the matter at the Victorian Civil &
Administrative Tribunal was adjourned until 31 May when 4 days have been set
aside for the hearing (31 May to 3 June 1999).
McDonald's spent much of the first day attempting to convince the Tribunal
Chairman that he shoudl disqualify himself and the second day trying to
convince the Tribunal to make an interim ruling that woudl have granted them
an extension of time for the permit they currently have which runs out on 17
April this year. The second day ended with the McDonalds camp in disarray as
they struggled after the request of residnets, to find on their "new" plans
the exhaust ducts and vents relating to the ventilation system to be put
into the tunnel.
The fight is also hotting up in Torquay where some of us spoke at their
rally last Saturday. Diamond Creek may be another hot spot quite soon as
communities around Victoria start to fight the McDonalds juggernaut.
The round the clock community picket stands firm in its resolve to protect
1 Sussex Street. We have to be vigilant now more than ever. So pay us a
visit, share a cuppa and do your bit to support us in our fight come on
down!
