This is an interesting issue - with different community interest
perspectives -ie the need to preserve heritage listed sites and
maintain their integrity - against the competing need to ensure
compliance with Disability - Access requirements - DDA Act - for public
buildings - such as railway stations, etc etc

Fairfield City Council, in conjunction with Heritage Council of NSW
and the Royal Australian Institute
of Architects, is running a one-day seminar on access and fire
safety requirements for heritage
buildings. The seminar, called "Ins and outs - Burning issues", is
on 21 April in Sydney.
Fairfield City Council, the Heritage Council of NSW and the Royal
Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) are
running a seminar on access and fire safety requirements for
heritage buildings, on 21 April in Sydney. The seminar
would be of value to council planning and approvals staff as well
as any staff involved in access issues and heritage
buildings.
This full-day seminar will examine issues of access to heritage
buildings for people with disabilities, upgrading to
comply with fire safety requirements and the insertion of new
building services into heritage buildings. The seminar
will focus on ways in which these requirements can be accommodated
to ensure retention and enhancement of
heritage significance in historic buildings.
