NO GST COMMUNITY PETITION
Public First has asked that this petition be circulated on Leftlink to
allow people to copy it and seek signatories from their workplaces etc.

To the Honourable the President & members of the Senate in Parliament
assembled:
Evidence shows that majority of Australians oppose a Goods and Services Tax
(GST). Se we the undersigned call upon our Senators to reject this tax
completely. We ask ou Senators to remember that at the last election, in
the lower house, the current Coalition Government received only 39.5% of
the national primary vote and also trailed in the two party preferred vote.
In the Senate, the Coalition recevied only 38% while parties opposing the
GST won beter than 58%. We say these results clearly indicate that the
present government does not hold a mandate to implement the GST and that
majority onf the Senators were elected on the expectation that they would
reject the GST completely.
